Since 1976, Charlestown residents and visitors have enjoyed the beauty and community our garden provides. Garden events are open to the public and run by volunteers. Our Tend and Tell program teaches local school kids where their food comes from. Everyone from residents, visitors, and even a few birds, bunnies, and bees enjoy the Garden.

Volunteers Needed:

Halloween Party, Sat Oct 28th 10AM-1PM

If you'd like to volunteer, please email, gardensforcharlestown2014@gmail.com

Tend and Tell is back in session at Harvard Kent School

Marta Frank had been reading to Kindergarteners at Harvard Kent for years. Through her friendship with gardener Geoff Phillips McEnany, they joined with another gardener, Cathy Shanks, to adapt the Tend and Tell program for the kids. The 9 week program combines weekly reading assignments with the class' Earth Science Requirement. Now in its second year, the students learn how seeds become plants; how bees, bugs, and birds assist crops; and about plants that become our food. This week, the students visited the garden and released worms into the plot that is dedicated for their use. Photo: Geoff Phillips McEnany showing worms to the kids. Learn more.
