Established in 1978 to provide a place to garden for residents of Charlestown, Gardens for Charlestown is a thriving 501(c)(3) organization maintained through the volunteer efforts and financial support of its members and the community at large.

Our three-fold mission is:

  • to support the quality of life in our neighborhood by protecting and cultivating the parcel of urban green space entrusted to it,

  • to engage members of the community in activities that are uplifting and enjoyable in a beautiful and welcoming environment, and

  • to educate children and adults alike on the wonders of nature and the importance of environmental sustainability.

Welcome

Infrastructure Project

On November 1, 2023, Gardens for Charlestown broke ground on the second and final phase of a major infrastructure project.  With the support of the City of Boston and funding through the Edward Ingersol Browne Fund, the Community Preservation Act, and generous donations by Members, friends, and neighbors, all of the garden borders and retaining walls have been replaced.  The new stone borders are both beautiful and sustainable and represent a once-in-a-generation investment in our property.

Thank you to all of those who made this possible. A special thanks to Yard and a Half for partnering with us on this special project.
